“Cognition” is simply the action of your mind acquiring and processing information.
Your understanding of the entire world and everyone in it is based on cognition. As you acquire and process new information, and add it to the understanding of information you’ve already processed, this forms how you see the world, people in your life, the effects of choices, and what’s happening in every moment of your day. So since it affects everything, obviously cognition is important.
As you come to understand what’s already going on inside your head, you can see how to do it better and on purpose, see where your understanding of the world around you has been hiccupping and messing things up in your life, help you see where others are coming from and why different ways of thinking are valid, and be happier with yourself as you work with your thought process instead of against it. It literally never stops applying.
Everyone thinks :O It’s kind of a necessary part of being conscious. But we don’t all do it in the same way or in the same order. These differences in thought processes are what eventually translate into personality types.
There are numerous stereotypes and misconceptions about personality typing, but here we’ll get to the root of it all: Cognition, the underlying thoughts and desires that make you who you are in your own individual way. You think the way you do for a reason. Your secret desires, interests, and fears make sense. Learning to understand how you think, why, and what you can do with it, naturally helps everything in life go more smoothly.
All cognition types are, are observations of how different people prioritize and process information and the natural results thereof. In every thought, every experience, and every interaction, you make unconscious choices about what you’re going to focus on most. These unwitting choices display what matters to you the most and in turn reflect the core of everything it means to be you. This leaves all behaviors, attitudes, and abilities open to you, yet you will always end up approaching them in a way that reflects your deepest desire.
Cognitive typing is not a listing of simplistic limits or divisive caricatures. It’s a set of tools, an open-ended guide to help you better understand everything that’s already been going on inside you. This equips you to derive ever greater benefit, insight, and enjoyment out of being the incredibly complex and unique person you really are.
Laconic:
Cognition is how your mind works; it reflects but doesn’t limit who you are.
